Just used Titanium Backup to defrost all the frozen bloatware, slapped that update.zip on the sdcard-ext, rebooted into recovery, and installed.

To boot into stock recovery turn the phone off, then hold power and volume down when the words fast boot appear at the top keep hitting volume down until you see android recovery. Then select volume up. It will load a android with a triangle logo. You then hit volume up and down at the same time and you are in.

The Galaxy S2 comes standard with a very decent photo editor app, called, wait for it :) - "Photo editor" - very handy for a few quick touch ups, cropping or rotating. Its not a full Photoshop type app, but for every day use, it does the job nicely!

In this post Ill quickly go over all the features it has - starting the app, allows you to select which image you want to edit:

You can either select an existing image, or take a new one... Once youve selected the photo you want to edit, youll get a neat interface with everything you need right there:

The most basic feature any decent photo editor app must have is a rotate one, and luckily, this one does! It also includes "flip horizontally" and "flip vertically" features:

The next one youd need would be a cropping tool - we always get stuff like fingers or bystanders that spoil the photo, so cropping the pic can easily fix that. It can even turn a crappy photo into a MASTERPIECE!!!

This little app also have several selection related tools and features, which allows you to make edits to only certain parts of a photo:

At the bottom youll see a back and forward button, so you can undo and redo any steps you take... Next to that you have a paint pallet icon, which gives you options to play with the brightness and contrast settings:

The magic wand tool gives you options to make some blur related changes to your selection (you need to make a selection first for this to work):

The final tool in the list gives you some other effects you can apply to your pic:

So there you have it, that covers the stock standard "Photo editor" that comes by default with the Galaxy S2 - its got enough to allow you to do the basics, but it wont be used by professional photographers :) (theyll anyway rather use their PC or Mac)

 This is the step by step procedure on how to manually upgrade or update the Samsung Galaxy Gio S5660 to the latest Android 2.3.4 firmware build S5660XXKQG with a default Lithuanian (Baltic language), since this is a Samsung Kies server official release over Lithuania, way back a few days ago from the time of this post. Okay, this firmware comes in single file .TAR packaged , so there s no need to find the BOOT, PHONE, PDA and CSC file, all we need is the OPS file and were ready to flash. Juts make a back up copy of all important files stored from the phone, although this is a one packaged , there is no wipe may occur but it is best to have an extra precautions to avoid any issues that may possibly happen.


1) Extract the downloaded firmware S5660XXKQG_S5660SEBKQ1_S5660XXKQ5

Note: the DLL files included from the downloaded files is not for use in this process.

2) Run ODIN v4.42 on your computers desktop.

3) Click the OPS button then select and load the GIO_v1.0.ops file.
    Tick on One Packaged checkbox, then click the One Packaged button and then load:
    S5660XXKQG_S5660SEBKQ1_S5660XXKQ5_HOME.tar.md5

4) Then reboot the Samsung Galaxy Mini  it into Download mode,. Turn it OFF the by pressing ( Volume Down + OK + Power ) you will then see the phone in downloading screen.

5) After that,  Connect  the phone to PC when the phone displays the downloading icon.,  The COM port mapping will turn to yellow colour when the device is properly connected and detected.

6) Then fire up the "START" button to begin flashing.  Dont touch anything until the whole process successfully completes. It takes just around 2-5 minutes just depends to your computer speed.

A word "PASS" will display on Odin once it finishes.
If the flashing  successfully completes, the phone will then reboot... you may then unplug it from your  computer.You can confirm the newly downloaded firmware version name etc by typing **#1234#.
Then do a full reset by typing this Code *2767*3855# to get a fully fresh firmware update installed. Then change the language settings at your own region. Just send us some feedbacks for any  issues that may possibly occur while upgrading.

Ok, this review isnt of the biggest and awesomest apps out there, but its of a cool one nonetheless! Last night I was browsing the app market, and saw Instant Heart Rate there in the list, and I had to investigate - I quickly downloaded and installed it, and a few seconds later I had a reading of my heartbeat!

Pretty neat trick for a phone that is! How it works is it uses the phones camera and LED flash, and you basically hold your index finger on the lens - it then calibrates for a few seconds, and starts recording your heartbeat.

Thats pretty much it. I reckon the main reason anyone would want this it to show off :) Oh, I guess fitness fanatics would also like it (but that is definitely not the reason I got it hehehe......)

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Play is now available in the Philippines. The phone has specifications typical of a mid-level Android with a 4.0" FWVGA resolution (480 x 854 pixels) screen,  1 GHz Scorpion processor, Adreno 205 graphics, 512MB of RAM, 5MP primary camera and a secondary front facing camera.The XPERIA Play comes with Android 2.3 out of the box.

In some respects it actually fall short of what you might expect. Out of the box, it does not come with 720p video recording. An update was released last month which brings this feature to the the XPERIA Play.

Internal memory is also a bit less than you would expect from a mid-level Android with just 400MB internal storage. A 8GB MicroSD card is included in the phone. 

What distinguishes the XPERIA play is the side-slider with dedicated gaming controls. To take advantage of this feature, Sony has a dedicated game store mainly for its PlayStation titles, but some third party developers, like GameLoft are releasing titles which take advantage of the dedicated gaming controls.

Topelectronics has the phone listed at a very reasonable Php17,800 with an official one year warranty.

HTC has entered into a partnership with Dropbox to give 5GB of online storage to HTC Android phones. HTC posted this on their Facebook page. I am not sure if this offer only applies to new HTC devices or even older HTC Android phones.

Dropbox provide free online storage to all Android, BlackBerry and iOS devices, although only 2GB free storage is given. You can earn additional storage by completing some tasks or referring other users to get up to 10GB.

HTC Windows Phone 7 devices do not get this. Dropbox does not have a Windows Phone 7 app. Windows Phone 7 devices do have 25GB of Skydrive storage, but it is not the same thing as having Dropbox storage.


Dropbox syncs your offline files to online storage whenever you have an internet connection. If you have several desktops or laptops it will sync your files across your devices. You can also share files to other Dropbox users. You can also access your online files via any web browser. Dropbox works across multiple platforms which include Windows, Mac OSX and Linux making even it more useful.

The Samsung Galaxy S III is here and its not just about the hardware – this time Samsung got serious about adding new software features and a couple of nice tweaks to the overall experience. Five of them caught our attention for either bridging the gap with competition or coming up with totally new ideas. And when you think about it, its the overall smoothness and functionality of a platform, not just the hardware guts that define it.

Of course, weve only scratched the surface with what we think is really some neat new features, but theres plenty of apps and functionality that we left out. PopUp Play for example allows you to play a video on top of what youre doing at all times, but we just dont see much real value in that, so weve skipped it. Others like S Health are welcome additions, but couldnt fit into the tight top five format, so make sure to let us know whats important for you in the comments below. Now, with no further ado, heres five areas where Samsung brought additional value and why that matters.

1. S Voice

S Voice is clearly Samsungs answer to Siri, as the Korean company didnt wait for Google to come up with its own solution. With S Voice, Samsung checks one box where Apple could claim dominance and thats important for both users and the company. S Voice is a natural-language processing assistant that will set an alarm for you, search the web and do some other things to help you out. You may or may not use it, but were glad its there.

2. Improved camera

Samsung decided to go with an 8-megapixel camera in the SGS III, and not bump the megapixels, which we think is more of a good thing. After all, more pixels mean theyll be cramped and noise will get easier into the picture. What truly matters is performance and heres when Samsung takes a big step forward with zero shutter lag and the inclusion of burst mode shots where the camera snaps images at 3.3 frames per second.

3. Removable battery, microSD card slot

With a recent trend of flagship devices going for non-removable batteries and non-expandable memory, the Galaxy S III is a breath of fresh air. Swapping batteries, and just replacing the battery when it dies is a breeze with the SGS III. Expandable memory with microSD cards makes you independent of the network and allows quick and easy drag and drop file transfers. Awesome!

4. Wireless charging

The SGS III packs some wow factor by supporting wireless charging. Youd need to get a separate Wireless Charging Kit, but theres something irresistably futuristic about charging your device with no cords.

5. Natural interaction with Smart Stay, Direct Call

We still find it hard to judge whether Samsungs “natural interaction” UI additions are more of a gimmick or a real boost to functionality. We know, though, that having your smartphone track with its front camera whether you look at it or not, and shut the screen off if not, is plain cool. Direct Call is another such cool feature – just raise the phone to your ear while looking at a text and the phone will understand that you want to call the texter. Neat!

RIM has announced three new BlackBerrys running their BlackBerry OS 7. We will have to wait for the reviews to see how good this O.S. is. For now, we can look at the hardware specifications.

The new BlackBerry Torch 9810 is very interesting. I looked at the Torch for a bit earlier this year, and considered buying it. Its 360 x 480 pixel resolution screen looked sharp enough, 3.2 inches was a bit on the small side, and the web browser disappointing. All in all, not enough for me to pay nearly 30K back than. 

I do have a bias, I never really like slider phones. I passed on the Torch in the same way I passed on the HTC Desire Z. Slider phones tend to be heavy the Torch weigh as much as the HTCs 4.3-inch monster phones, and the Desire Z is even heavier.

 

While I love the physical keyboard on both units, after a friend let my play with his iPhone 4 for an extended period, I figured I could get along with the virtual keyboard. Five months on no regrets. I can still type faster with a physical keyboard, but intelligent word prediction gets me by.

The BlackBerry Storm appeared to be dead... so I was left with Android, iOS, or Windows Phone 7

 

RIM has announced a new Torch, a new Bold and a new STORM. Well not really, the touchscreen only BlackBerry goes under the "Torch" name too. With a 3.7-inch screen 480 x 800 screen. I know it is a little too little a little too late. I know that BlackBerry 7 OS is a placeholder till QNX, but...

I think I want one.  I really do not need all that many apps, and BlackBerrys push email is still better than what Android, iOS and Windows Phone 7 have to offer.

The Gingerbread CRT-off animation makes its first appearance!

The widget overview accessed with a pinch on the home screen now has the widgets floating about. Shaking the phone sends them flying. Pretty and smooth animation but it makes the overview practically unusable IMO, Ill tap SE about this.

Several ring tones have disappeared, among others the one I were using (Digital Phone). Not a big issue.

Im finally able to set a silent alarm! Previous firmwares allowed setting the alarm sound to None in the list but always defaulted back to the last set sound anyway. This is now fixed.

Setting the alarm time now entails spinning dials instead of clicking. Faster but less precise.

Various UI text is now smaller and sharper.

Additional bloatware, of which some can be uninstalled without root.

Connected Devices, a more intuitive and cleaner version of the DLNA media server software.

The address book looks a bit different, I think. Unfortunately its still impossible to change the sorting order of contacts.

The photo album offers a few more options when you call up the menu.

Digital zoom available at all camera resolutions. Only for images though, not video.

Compression levels of still pictures remain overly high.

xLOUD option to significantly enhance audio output strength from the rear speaker. Almost painfully loud IMO.

Using the HDMI mirroring feature now forces the home screen into landscape mode for a better fit with widescreen TVs.

There is also the Keyboard option for International (full keyboard or Phonepad !)

We first heard about battery life issues with the Apple iPhone 4S, and iOS5 upgraded iPhone 4s and 3GSs, from PhoneArena almost two weeks ago. Back than, I figured it was really just a result of iOS5 five being more Android like since it now syncs to the cloud, updates location data and has notifications. I figured people may also have just been using Siri too much. A week later Chris Breen of Macworld wrote about his efforts to diagnose the problem. 

But when we see things like The Inquirer writing that the Samsung Galaxy S II has longer batter life than the iPhone 4S, we really start to wonder. The Galaxy S II does after all have a much larger screen than the iPhone 4S and the biggest battery drain on an Android is the power consumed by the display.

Today, TechRadar reported that Apple is contacting iPhone 4S users about battery drain issues. I guess, this confirms that there is a problem with iOS5 or the battery in the iPhone 4S, which is not caused by excessive Siri use.

Having engineers look into it, rather than a quick public denial, only to back-track, later is a much better way for Apple to handle this kind of thing. So what while it does Appear that there is a problem with the iPhone 4S  battery or an issue with iOS5 which affects a fair number of users, I dont think we should label this one battery-gate. The denial factor is missing.

November 3, 2011 update. Laptop Magazine reports Apple has confirmed that a "small number" or users are experiencing battery life issues and will be issuing a fix in a few weeks. Laptop Magazine reminds readers that the dual core Apple iPhone 4S does consume more power than the older iPhone 4,

One area which may have caused confusion confusion was when Tim Cook announced during the iPhone 4S launch that the iPhone 4S had one hour more of 3G talk time without mentioning anything else on the battery life.

The new iPhone 4S, based on Apples released specifications has 33% less standby time and one hour less web browsing time over WiFi.

Heres a simple guide if you want to add and or remove any network accounts on your Samsung Galaxy S II. This may help you remove old Email,Gmail, Facebook account or multiple accounts that you no longer use on  Samsung Galaxy S II.

Adding an account on Samsung Galaxy S II:

1. Open Settings, the tap on the Accounts & sync selection

2. Tap on Add account

3. Select the type of account to add (Microsoft Exchange, Facebook and Google are available by default)
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure your account (depending on account type, you will be asked to select what kind of data to sync to your device)
5. When complete, the account is added to the list in the Accounts & sync section and data will begin synchronizing to your device

Removing an account on Samsung Galaxy S II:

1. Open Settings, then tap on the Accounts & sync selection
2. Select the desire account you want to remove or delete
3. Then Tap Remove account

4. A pop-up message appear: Do you really want to remove this account? removing it will also delete all of its messages, contacts, and other data from phone.

Just confirm that you want to remove the account by tapping on Remove account or tap on Cancel if you selected the wrong account
Remove account
5. Your account will now be deleted
